Responses to common "explanations" of why there are so many school shootings in America
Every school/mass shooting in the US brings about a flood of social media posts calling for gun control. And those, in turn, are followed by an entire deluge of responses which attempt to show that mass shootings are not caused by "people who shoot guns", but anything and everything else they hate. Here are some of my responses to the responses...
- Everybody in the world listens to American music.
- Everybody in the world plays American video games.
- Everybody in the world watches American movies and American TV shows.
- Every country has mentally ill people.
- Every country has people with "red flags".
- Many other countries have much lower belief in gods and church attendance.
- Most countries don't have public school prayer.
- Many countries have legal access to abortion.
- Many countries have larger "welfare" programs.
- Many countries have many more "woke" citizens and policies.
- Many other countries recognize LGBTQ+ existence and rights.
- Some countries have much more lenient criminal justice systems.
- Some countries even have legalized recreational drugs and/or sex work.
- And these other countries don't have armed "school resource officers".
- And these other countries don't design their elementary schools with "man traps" and siege contingencies in place.
Yet... these other countries don't have regular mass/school shootings.
I can't say I know how to solve it, but just choosing the stuff you don't like and saying "it's this!" is not fooling anyone but yourself.
