Freedom of choice and food labeling
Most Americans haven't been told about some of the ingredients that are in the foods they eat. Some very large companies are trying to hide the truth about how their plants are grown. The FDA is so far refusing to force companies to label these products.
Do you believe we have a right to know how your food is grown? These large companies do not want to label their products. Shockingly, even the ones making "organic" products don't label their products this way! Why not? It's just information: why would the manufacturers possibly object?
Are you with me? Will you help give consumers information? Then read my modest proposal, and write your congressmen! If more of us speak out about why we care about the food we put in our own bodies and in our children's bodies, then we can convince the FDA to change its policy.
Proposal for food labeling and freedom of choice for consumers
If a product uses plants grown with animal feces, the label must indicate that. Simple. Informational. Label them, and let the consumers decide.
Here's a sample:

Isn't feces-treated food safe?
There have been NO long-term studies conducted on the safety of feces-treated foods on humans. Currently, any farmer is allowed to treat their crops with animal feces (euphemistically called "manure") and bring them to market without any safety or toxicology tests. The truth is, it might be safe, and it might not, but we feel it should be up to you decide.
Just like nutrition facts
We previously didn't label foods with calorie or nutritional value information, but we do now, and most consumers use this information every day. The Freedom of Choice for Consumers Food Act simply requires food producers to also label food that was treated with animal feces.
No cost to consumers or food producers
The Freedom of Choice for Consumers Food Act will have no cost impact on consumers or food producers. It simply adds a label to feces-treated food. Companies change their labeling all the time. If this initiative passes, it will be a huge step towards the transparency people deserve. Once people KNOW what is in their food, they can then make the informed choice to avoid the potential health risks of feces-treated food until more research on their long-term effects can be done.
Producers of food products currently DO NOT label their products in such a manner, and they don't want the government to make them. Why, if these products are "safe", wouldn't these companies want consumers to know?
Think about that, and enjoy that "organic" salad.

Me: Something that Tom wrote.
Emily: What did he say?
Me: That we should have labels that list if a plant was grown in animal feces.
Emily: [makes face] Ewwww!
Me: It's also known as manure...or chicken poo in our case.
Emily: [shrugs] Oh...that...(obviously unconcerned with the imminent danger of consuming animal feces tainted food)
