A Christian Nation PR meeting
PR rep 1: "We have a problem. We all know this great land of ours is a Christian nation, and we all believe our government should uphold Christian values, but there's a lot of people out there now who disagree. So, we're starting up a PR campaign to convince everybody. Now, how can we really let people know we are a Christian nation?"
PR rep 2: "We could feed the hungry, care for the sick, and shelter the homeless…"
PR rep 1: "Nah, that's hippie stuff."
PR rep 2: "OK, what's your idea?"
PR rep 1: "Let's put up giant ten commandments monuments at court houses!"
PR rep 2: "Are you sure you wanna lead with that?"
PR rep 1: "Uhhh… we make everyone say 'one nation under God'?"
PR rep 2: "Hmmm, maybe we could take in some refugees or something instead?"
PR rep 1: "Are you crazy? That could be dangerous!"
PR rep 2: "It seems like the right thing to do. After all, in the parable of the Good Samaritan, he didn't assume…"
PR rep 1: "Nope nope nope… We're going with the ten commandments thing. And… and generally being nasty to gay people and other sinners."
PR rep 2: "You've convinced me. It's just as Jesus would have wanted it."
PR rep 1: "I know, right?! Jesus is awesome, just like our super-duper Christian nation!"
PR rep 2: "Right! We'll see how it goes!"
Yeah, I don't think we are a Christian nation, but many of those who do, such as a large portion of our elected officials, never seem to take that idea beyond "make school kids pray" and "gay people are icky". Very strange.
